Between the Stitches is a bespoke textile series that explores how the art of hand embroidery can be a visual platform for narrating personal experiences. Displayed as a timeline through cloth and stitch work, it embodies personal connections to Chloe Boudib’s grandfather’s work as a dressmaker in Lebanon and how he brought his skills to Sydney when he moved there in the 60s. He has created numerous garments for his family and the wider community, each being unique and cherished for their sentimental value.

In this series, the excess textiles and cloth from his garments have been used as a vehicle to document stories of Chloe’s heritage. The combination of fabric and patterns symbolise a hybrid between her grandfather’s work and her own design aesthetic. The collection of photographs provides a visual guide of how influential his work has been over three generations, with the coloured thread bringing his creations to life. Between the Stitchesuses the notion of drawing with thread tohighlight the significance of handmade textiles and conceptually create lineage connecting stories, family and time.
